2026 resolutions

After almost two years, I'm bringing this blog back under another name: Karen Clare. The focus will be on homemaking, decor, and some cooking. I've come to hate social media and the way it presents an unrealistic look at other people's lives and makes us depressed. I'm also concerned that we're becoming a society of illiterates who are drawn more and more to visual media instead of written.  I had a blog back in the late 2000s and early 2010s, and it was so much fun. I miss it. I think that, unfortunately. social media have destroyed personal blogs. So I'm doing my part to change that.

2025 was a decent year, rather uneventful. I like my job and right now everything is pretty good, thankfully.

I don't usually do New Year's resolutions. Not because I don't believe in resolutions, but because I don't think you should wait till some random date to make them. But this year my goals are financial in nature, and related: to eliminate all of my credit card debt and to not buy anything unnecessary. Obviously, if I must buy something, I will, but no more spending on unnecessary decor items; when I want to decorate, I'll be "shopping" my house and using what I already have. And I'm only eating out a couple of times a month. I figure that's way more realistic than saying that I won't eat out at all. This way, when I do, it will more of a treat. And as a safeguard for telling myself that I need something that I don't, I will ask, "What will happen if I don't buy this?" If the answer is, "Well, nothing," then I don't really need it.

One thing I do need is a new office chair; the legs of my current one are loose and unable to be tightened. I'm afraid that one of these days I'm going to sit in the chair and it's going to collapse. I miss having a chair that rolls and swivels as well.

Another thing I want to do this year is try to get back to doing things I enjoy: writing, and music, and doing more things socially.

I'm going to be posting about some things that I've done towards the end of last year, in addition to things about the present.
