How I clean, part 1: Cleaning products

I thought I would do a few posts on cleaning -- what I use, schedule, tools, etc. This one will focus on products that I use. I'm not huge on my cleaning products being "natural" -- I hate vinegar and baking soda, for example. Vinegar stinks and the residue baking soda leaves seems impossible to get rid of. It's also terrible for your vacuum motor. I like to limit the number of products that I use.

So my first go-to is my homemade all-purpose cleaner ("APC" for short), which is a mixture of 1/3 isopropyl alcohol, a few drops of dish soap, and the rest water -- shake it up and you're ready to go. I got this "recipe" from Mack of the Midwest Magic Cleaning YouTube channel. As the name implies, his channel is about cleaning,  usually hoarder houses but sometimes his own, and he gives great tips and advice. He's hilarious and his channel is worth subscribing to, in my opinion, if you're interested in that sort of thing. Anyway, I love this formula. It's fantastic on kitchen and bathroom surfaces, glass and mirrors (do not use it on wood). Spray Away is great but it has a very strong smell that gets to me after a while, and I think this APC works just as well, if not better.

Dawn Power Wash. I use this for dishes, of course, but also spray some in a little water for kitchen cabinets, backsplash, counters as part of my monthly kitchen deep-cleaning routine. I also love this for showers and tubs. I know a lot of people love vinegar for bathrooms and kitchens, but to get rid of dirt and grease, you really want an alkaline product, and vinegar is an acid. Vinegar is good to use AFTER degreasing to get rid of limescale and mineral deposits from hard water. However, I can't stand the smell of vinegar, so I use Lysol toilet bowl cleaner instead for hard water deposits.

Lysol toilet bowl cleaner. I used this in my toilet bowl once a month to prevent limescale/calcium rings, in conjunction with my Clorox wand system, because I don't really want nasty germ-ridden toilet brushes around.

Endust. I use this occasionally, for both finished and unfinished wood. You don't have to use it every week, and for my weekly cleaning routine, I usually don't, just a Swiffer duster.

Febreze fabric refresher. I live with my very best friend, my dachshund, and so after I vacuum and mop, I spray fabrics around my home with pet odor formula Febreze fabric refresher, especially the sofa and my area rugs.

Diffuser oil. I also use this to make my home smell fresh and nice. Hobby Lobby has some really excellent  scented oils and sprays and candles. Candles make me nervous, so I prefer the oils and sprays. My current favorite for spring is the Italian Bergamot & Sandalwood scent.
